Zahid Hussain
(Pakistani Journalist, Writer & Television Analyst)

ZAHID HUSSAIN is an award winning journalist and author. He is a former correspondent for The Times of London and The Wall Street Journal. He also has covered Pakistan and Afghanistan for several other international publications, including Newsweek, Associated Press, The Economist and India Today. He is regular columnist for Dawn, Pakistan’s leading English language newspaper.

Hussain was Pakistan scholar at Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholar. Washington. D.C (2011-2012). He has also been a visiting fellow at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge (1999) and at Henry Stimson Center. Washington. D.C (1994).

Hussain has authored three books: Frontline Pakistan: The struggle with militant Islam (2007- Columbia university press, I.B Taurus and Penguin) and The Scorpion’s Tail: The relentless rise of Islamic militants in Pakistan (2010. Simonand Schuster. New York). The books have won widespread acclaim as seminal texts on the subject. Frontline Pakistan was declared book of the year (2007) by the Wall Street Journal.

His latest book is “ No Win War-The paradox of US-Pakistan relations under Afghanistan shadow{ 2021 Oxford University Press}

Hussain has also contributed chapters in several books including “ Deliberate nuclear ambiguity” in the book “Pakistan and nuclear bomb”. Notre Dame University Press (1999) and  “Battling militancy” in the book “Pakistan-Beyond crisis state.”  Oxford University Press (2011).

He has published number of research papers for various international think tanks on subjects related to regional conflicts, terrorism and geopolitics.

He has worked as consultant to World Bank and Department for International Development (DFID).

He regularly participates in international conferences and seminars. 

Hussain appears regularly as a commentator on various national and international radio and TV channels including BBC and CNN, Al Jazeera.
